The context for Local Government and public services is the most severe it has been for generations. Specifically we are working in an environment where the recession and levels of public borrowing will bite for years. Across the public sector we will be looking to achieve more for less. There are real concerns about managing sharp reductions in public spending as well as potential deeper devolution, a continued policy focus on choice and public engagement, reputation challenges and other major societal challenges.
