Appraisal

Chief Executive and Director Appraisal is an important element of SOLACE Enterprises’ work. We act as independent advisers and facilitators to Leaders and Review Panels in Unitary, Met, District, County and Fire Authorities throughout the UK as well as in London Boroughs and National Parks. Our robust, well-tested methodology and breadth of experience provides us with an up-to-date comparative perspective on Chief Executive performance and the issues facing councils.

Our approach is based upon:

  • assessment of past performance against measurable targets
  • assessment of the Chief Executive’s development needs against a competency framework
  • self – assessment
  • appraisal interview involving the Leader and members
  • agreement on targets
  • agreed written record of the outcome

We use a small pool of specially selected, facilitators who have typically been chief executives themselves and understand the job and its complexity. All of them are experienced in working effectively with political leaders and elected members across all parties.
